My Favorite Stories and Characters 2012
Justin Jampol, a historian and collector who created a more than 70 thousand pieces collection of Cold War artifacts at the Wende Museum; Khatuna Lorig, an archer and five-time-Olympian born in Tbilisi who represented three countries and coached Jennifer Lawrence to Hunger Games perfection;
the D-Three collective, artists who create a ritual to help us part with burdensome objects ( no living beings accepted ); Reparata Mazzola, a former Barry Manilow background singer who donated a burdensome object to D-Three and the Shifletts, a family who invited a stranger ( me ) into their house so she could tell Germans more about the tradition of American breakfast - these were my guests at the first ever soundslikerstin storytelling event.
They represented what makes me love my work - to go out into the world, find stories and listen to the people who tell them. Connecting them at the Wende Museum to each other as well as with my friends, colleagues and strangers was one of the best experiences of my life as a reporter and story finder. I am so happy to know that there are people out there who actually enjoy taking time to sit down and listen to stories - no special effects, no fireworks, no jingles, no Hollywood celebrities.
Soundslikerstin will make this a new tradition!
